I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique cultural commentary ...

Having read the Croatian version of this book, I can wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique cultural commentary and a good laugh. As a Croatian-American woman married to a very un-ethnic American man, I feel more than qualified to proclaim that Cody's observations are spot-on. He comments on many aspects of Croatian culture - coffee, drafts through windows, gift-giving, friendships- that we Croatians accept as normal but others may find intriguing or sometimes even...weird. My husband has often wondered why my mom offers him slippers when we go visit, and why she puts more food on his plate than anyone else's (including her own children).
This book should be mandatory reading for any inter-ethnic couple, as its humorous anectodes and observations would apply to anyone in a relationship with an "foreigner" - not just Croatian. Order it and be prepared to spit out your espresso as you read and laugh out loud!

I love this book. When I bought it, I knew what to expect since I follow the author's blog, but even then I simply adore this book.

'Chasing a Croatian girl' shows Croatian habits and customs, but in a funny way never demeaning them. As a Croatian all of those customs makes perfect sense, but it was nice to see the other side of it.

Funny and Endearing Look at Cultural Differnces

It is clear that Cody Brown has spent considerable time in Croatia. He is right on target when he talks about the differences in culture between Croatia and America. I laughed out loud when reading many of his thoughts regarding the many differences: drinking coffee, overbearing mother-in-laws, drafts from open windows, partying and neighbors. He went off track, however, in chapter 24 "Wild West vs Mild West" and gun violence in America. In all the previous chapters Brown emphasized the closeness of families, the genuineness of the people, the love of children, the positive attitudes toward real friendships and the tolerance of others. He even admits that other countries like Serbia has a similar number of guns per capita and then somehow explains that gun violence in America is due to the proliferation of guns and gun ownership. If he would only read his earlier chapters regarding the Croatian commitment to family, friendships and their respect for human life and compare those aspects with American culture he might just stumble on the real answers to his own question: Why is there more violence in America and why is Croatia a safer place to live? Those many differences that he found both funny and endearing in Croatian culture are the very reasons why it is safer to walk down the streets of any major Croatian city than one in America.

With that one exception, I would strongly recommend the book to anyone who wants to get a fresh view of not only the Croatian culture, but a fresh look at their own non-Croat culture. It is clear that Cody Brown has developed both a love and understanding of his adopted country.

Great work, great book!

For about one year since I have found this book, I use it every day for personal and my family health. Every word is full of meaning. I had a pure digestion and assimilation but this book clarified them and pointed out simple natural remedies. An unhealthy intestine is the source of many diseases. For the first time I read and heard how a human healthy stool must be. Unfortunately, numerous MD doctors do not know, as I faced. Very, very interesting this book.

Great Reference, Knowledge, and recommendations to handle many ails

I purchase Natural Remedy books for my dental office as patients are looking for an alternative to the synthetic remedies our MD's are most familiar with. When I saw this small book, I thought, Bad Choice for the office. I started reading and couldn't put it down. This is a world of knowledge. A different perspective, and not that hard to follow. I'm already doing a nightly liver cleanse (easy recipe), and have passed on a lot of knowledge of this book to my patients, and my elderly parents. Clearly, I'm not changing my ways 100% to all he says, but it's definitely the direction we all need to be heading towards if we want to avoid illness, especially as we get older. I give this book an A+. This author has other books on Immune Restoration, Insomnia/Fatigue, and other Home Remedies. I see all these books can ordered much cheaper directly from him (lebeaubooks.com) with combined shipping costs. I'm going to check into this.

I'm finding this booklet helpful in my fight with chronic fatigue and food sensitivities. It has sensible nutritional ideas, and focuses more on food than supplements, though a few supplements are recommended. I appreciated some of his new ways of combining foods for sensitive stomachs. A couple of suggestions went against my grain in the last chapter, but overall I think this booklet is a little treasure.

Perforated edges on the pages please!

My preschool daughter really enjoys the Kumon cutting books. They really help her in her scissor skills.

My one and only complaint is that the pages are extremely difficult to remove from the book. The pages instruct that an adult should cut along the edge of the page to separate the page from the book before giving it to the child. Unfortunately, the book only provides about a half an inch before the content of the page begins. It is impossible to cut the line down the page without cutting into the contents of the page. I had to tear up the entire book and separate all of the pages from the spine of the book just so I could remove the pages easily. It is a bit of a nuisance and unsightly and disorganized.

This problem could have been easily remedied if they'd just perforated the edges of the paper or left plenty of room before beginning the content of the page.

When I purchase a good product for my kids, I rave about it. This was worth rating one star. The fact that the pages are not perforated makes me go from love it to hate it. If you buy the book and read the instructions, you will instantly agree with me. I can't even get the pages out properly for my daughter to use this workbook!! Maybe I got an extremely bad copy (I've sent a note to their customer service) but I can't believe the challenge they have made for parents before kids can even do the workbook. To explain further because you can't see the book, the instructions want you to cut along each page and remove with maybe 1 mm of space between cutting and binder. Not even enough space to get scissors between the line and the binder to cut. I tried tearing, but doesn't work so well in the middle of the page. I am going to take my copy to an office depot to see if they can cut the pages out with a cutting board, but what mom needs another errand to run? Really disappointed, but maybe my expectation were so high because of all the rave reviews, which is why I purchased in the first place. If it was perforated, it would be perfect. Because it isn't, it's one star! (will update my review if I hear back from their customer service.)

Update on 12/16: you have to disassemble the book and break the spine to use the book per customer service. Maybe if I had known that initially that you have to tear apart the book to use it, I would not have rated it so poorly, but it seems the company should fix that by adding perforated pages. My one star rating stands!

Fantastic Start to Using Scissors

I really can't praise Kumon enough - the simple progression these workbooks go through really help child garner the skills they need while still making it fun. The first few projects were really simple - just cutting straight lines from the top of the page to the bottom. Zig Zag lines were introduced next, then simple shapes, then curved lines. The lines get thinner and thinner, although when looking at them, it didn't seem like they were at first. My son is halfway through the book and always looks forward to do his "cutting project" each day. There are 40 pages to cut in the book. I will definitely buy this for my daughter later - it's amazing to see how well my son can use scissors now...and how proud he is to finish each project! Highly recommended!!!
